Notre Dame defeated Purdue, 23-12, Saturday, with a performance more notable for what the Irish didn't do than what they did. In the first game of the season, they didn't burst out with big plays. They moved the chains. Other than one red-zone fumble, they didn't stop themselves.

Good evening readers. I hope your Labor Day weekend is going well. I just wanted to send you out a personal note. As some of you know, when I’m not working in politics I have been in the retail industry, selling and demonstrating gaming products to the community. Such has been my life, on and off, for the past five years or so. Well, I’m afraid that those days are over. Yesterday evening, my employment suddenly came to a close. Due to financial difficulties, I was abruptly released. Although I’ll freely admit that I have been searching for political work once more, I don’t have anything new confirmed and so I was, at best, at least two weeks away from leaving. So now here I am, another statistic in a troubled economy, madly scrambling to find my next job before my savings are reduced to zero. But as for you, the reader, I hope that you will stick with me through this rough patch until I escape this downward spiral.

Rasmussen reports today that Democratic President Barack Obama's approval ratings are tanking at 42%. Obama's "recovery summer" has not recovered his favor with the majority of the American people. Now he faces 9.6% unemployment figures and unrest across the nation as we head into the November elections....

I didn’t think the day would come that I agree with Anderson Cooper- but he sure hands it to Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson. Listen to the state of denial in this elected Democrat leader’s explanations when pressed on questions of “knowing” about ethics and especially when asked whether she thought it was wrong to give scholarship money to her relatives for years and years who weren’t remotely entitled to them! LIE LIE LIE and LIE SOME MORE. Sure sounds like Bill Clinton when he LIED about Monica Lewinsky. Similarly, Krystal Ball is denying that she had any idea of the scandalous appearance that would come out of cashing in stocks from companies that basically don’t exist or misrepresenting the facts around where her campaign donations are coming from, or the pathetically false ads that are spun up to tear down her opponent rather than positive ads about her own performance as a 28 year old Housewife, CPA, Programmer, Business Owner, New Mom, Political Strategist, Day Trader, Just an average Mom… or promises to actually do SOMETHING better than her opponent. But let’s put the real blame where it belongs… the only way people like this get into office is because people like us elect them! Okay, well maybe not “me”, but “us” as a general public voter.

Next weekend the upper Shenandoah Valley will turn back the hands of time to 1862 when America was at war with itself, brother fighting brother, with reenactments of the Battle of Front Royal and Fisher's Hill. It's an "up close and personal" history lesson for those who want to know their American history. Congressman Eric Cantor, Republican Whip from Virginia, warned in Friday's USA Today of tax increases from the Democrats and President Barack Obama. In an op-ed for the newspaper, he wrote: Listening to the Democrats this summer, you're unlikely to hear about an impending tax increase. In an effort to sanitize their historically irresponsible decision to raise tax rates in the midst of a struggling economy, President Obama and the congressional majority say they are merely "allowing the Bush tax cuts" to expire. Skillful messaging perhaps, but cold comfort to the millions of Americans and small businesses who aren't concerned with what their effective tax rate was in 2001.

The so-called auto industry bailouts were supposed to help keep American automakers afloat. After news broke on Tuesday that U.S. auto sales hit a 28-year low , one would think that the United Auto Workers (UAW) would be pitching a royal sh!t fit over what the Obama Administration considered the grand solution to keeping them in operations. Now, it looks like Detroit will most likely collapse due to the lack of sales.

Stephen Hawking is a scientist I admire greatly; both for his determination amid a tragic disease and his obvious intelligence. But his latest comments on Creation trouble me. I may be foolish to argue with the holder of the academic chair at Cambridge that Sir Issac Newton held but here is what Hawking asserted: He [Hawking] adds: “Because there is a law such as gravity, the universe can and will create itself from nothing. “Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the universe exists, why we exist. I note Hawking uses the word “creation”; I think he is right. The universe was created. He’s just wrong about how it happened and Who did it. Hawking suggests that the laws of science brought the universe into being and thus there is no need for a deity. But the former holder of the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics might differ with Hawking: Gravity explains the motions of the planets, but it cannot explain who set the planets in motion. God governs all things and knows all that is or can be done. I’ll go with this: “In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth.” Genesis 1:1 (KJV) God can neither be proven or disproven by science. In the years when we Virginia natives lived at the Brushy Mountain foothills of northwest North Carolina, we constantly explored as much as we could in that part of the world. A short three-hour drive from our home was Dollywood in the Smokey Mountains of eastern Tennessee, a trip we were to make many times over the years. As someone who grew up in Richmond with Kings Dominion an hour drive north on I-95, Dollywood was a more down-home amusement park, small and tucked into the mountainside on the edge of Pigeon Forge. We would stay at a favored family-owned cottage in nearby Gatlinburg and drive the short distance to Dollywood where we had season tickets. When Dollywood opened 25 years ago, we were there to enjoy the festivities

I have written about Rep. Mike Castle before at Conflicted Libertarian. I recognize that Castle is a moderate Republican; some of his votes on things like cap-and-trade and closing alleged gunshow loopholes bother me. But I am enthusiastic about Rep. Castle for US Senate because of an otherwise obscure issue: Coins Remember before the State Quarter series in 1999? American coins were dull and boring. The quarter had not been changed since 1932; the dime since 1946. Same ol’, same ol designs year after year. But in 1999, things changed dramatically with the new quarter with Caesar Rodney riding a horse to vote for independence. The State Quarter program was the brainchild of the Congressman from Delaware: Michael N. Castle. The state quarters caused enthusiasm for coin collecting: Kids bought albums and collected every coin in the series

9,600 applications received for 1,500 jobs at $15-20/hour Remember the big "megasite" battle in Augusta County about four or five year ago when it was rumored that Toyota wanted to build a car manufacturing plant in Weyers Cave, and a woman at the opposite end of the county protested to the Board of Supervisors? That began a huge battle that pitted the large land owners in the southern and southwestern areas of the county against residents who were looking for jobs. As a result, Toyota gave up and reportedly moved to Mississippi where they were welcomed with open arms. This week, even as the plant is still under construction, they received 9,600 applications from across the nation for 1,500 jobs that will pay between $15 and $20 an hour. The nation's unemployment rate came out today at 9.6%.

In his latest Cyrstal Ball (not to be confused with the 1st District candidate with questionable finances) UVA Center for Politics Director Larry Sabato currently projects that Republicans will gain as many as 47 house seats, 9 senate seats and 9 governorships. That gives the Republicans control of the House, and a good step up towards the next redistricting cycle, but doesn’t quite take the Senate. Although Sabato does note that in the 6 times since World Ward II that the House of Representatives has flipped, the Senate has as well. Sabato notes: Overall, though, a strong bet is that 2010 will generate a substantial pendulum swing from the Democrats to the Republicans. It is not that Republicans are popular—most polls show the party even less liked than the Democrats

If I remember correctly it was the combination of 9/11 and the so-called “Aqsa intifada” and the attendant reporting (or mis-reporting) that encouraged me to get started. The organization, Honest Reporting got started due the latter. In this video , Tuvia Grossman meets the soldier (actually border policeman) who saved him 10 years earlier.

Glenn Nye Gives Up Original Ad Plans, Hits Reset with New Ad

Glenn Nye’s campaign released their new ad today, virtually a complete 180 turn-around from their much (and justly) criticized first ad. Contrasted with Rigell’s ad, where Rigell spoke directly to the camera, Nye’s lame attempt at a first ad was all voiceover, with the requisite ‘I approved this ad’ at the conclusion. Rigell’s ad was far more personal, not to mention Nye’s ludicrous claim that he voted against the bailout, despite not being in office for the vote. Nye’s team apparently quickly realized they would lose the message battle (thankfully for them it came before Labor Day) and went with a new approach. Admittedly, far more effective then his first go around

He destroyed the Clinton Political Machine – Driving a stake thru the heart of Hillary’s Presidential aspirations – something no Republican was ever able to do. The loony left are at it again. They have a website called Tea Party Tracker that is begging their left wing followers to grab a camera and find a racist, or at least one with a T-shirt message that the left wing losers at Media Matters can spin into something nefarious. All they want is one swastika or “N” word on a sign or an article of clothing to prove their theory that the Tea Party participants are all racists. Strange how these lefties see black people at the Tea Party events and don’t come to the conclusion that all Tea Party folk are black.

By now you have heard about yesterday’s nut job who strapped a bomb on his person and took a couple of guns into the Discovery Channel and held several persons hostage for hours. If you watch the lefty wing media, here is what you missed. The man, James Lee, was a follower of Al Gore and the now debunked Global Warming scam. After viewing Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth”, Lee decided to take action. The film and hype of this lie caused this man to attempt to harm others in the name of saving the planet

FreedomWorks, the D.C. based thorn in President Obama’s side is hosting Blog Con 2010 next week at the Sheraton Hotel in Crystal City. Somewhere around 160 bloggers – including Virginia Right! – will join politicians and press at the event which ends with the 9/12 rally in D.C. Several of the bloggers we have already heard from were CPAC Bloggers this past February, so we can pick up the discussions at the receptions, or during the events and sessions. Thursday starts with a meet and greet with House Communications Directors at the Capitol Visitors Center and ends with a reception with Erick Erickson, Matt Kibbe and Steven Crowder back at the hotel.

As if the legislature cancelling insurance coverage of their Viagra wasn’t enough to make DMV workers even more cranky than usual, now they have to work on a holiday weekend. Governor McDonnell announced this afternoon that, due to the recent computer problems, DMV offices will be open this weekend on Saturday, Sunday and yes, on Labor Day. McDonnell said: “It is imperative that we take every step necessary to assist Virginians inconvenienced by the recent computer issues that impacted 13% of the Commonwealth’s file servers. In order to assist Virginians who need to return to the DMV for a license I have ordered select customer service centers to open this Sunday, as well as on Labor Day. In addition, our centers will also have extended hours the following weekend.

I know I might be premature in this prediction (and it’s not even Labor Day yet), but things are looking really good for Robert Hurt in the 5 th Congressional District. According to a recent Survey USA poll , Hurt is ahead of Rep. Tom Perriello by 16 percentage points. With this huge margin, Hurt is on his way to victory in November if this momentum continues.
