Remembering the Real George Allen

As former Senator George Allen apparently gears up for a potential re-match with Jim Webb, I want to remind Virginia Republicans of his real record on the Marriage Amendment. I have real reservations about re-treading the wind-blown Allen when far better candidates who actually believe something are out there (Bob Marshall). The Downward Spiral

Posted at The Virginia Conservative - "The most important goal in my life is to have some significant impact in preserving personal freedom in the life of this country." -Richard D. Obenshain

Good evening readers. I hope your Labor Day weekend is going well.  I just wanted to send you out a personal note.  As some of you know, when I’m not working in politics I have been in the retail industry, selling and demonstrating gaming products to the community.  Such has been my life, on and off, for the past five years or so.  Well, I’m afraid that those days are over.  Yesterday evening, my employment suddenly came to a close.  Due to financial difficulties, I was abruptly released.  Although I’ll freely admit that I have been searching for political work once more, I don’t have anything new confirmed and so I was, at best, at least two weeks away from leaving.  So now here I am, another statistic in a troubled economy, madly scrambling to find my next job before my savings are reduced to zero.  But as for you, the reader, I hope that you will stick with me through this rough patch until I escape this downward spiral.

The Cost of the Wars Last week our president announced the end of something in Iraq (see On the president’s speech last night by The right-wing liberal .). So another Virginia blogger (See The cost of the wars  at Smash Mouth Politics .) reposted  Don’t ever complain to me about the money spent on Iraq, again by Phineas. Thus, Smash Mouth Politics  induced a discussion of the following chart. It is a nice chart, and it is literally correct, but the chart itself says nothing about our own assumptions.

Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson and Krystal Ball Must Share the Same Ethics Teacher

Posted by

I didn’t think the day would come that I agree with Anderson Cooper- but he sure hands it to Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson. Listen to the state of denial in this elected Democrat leader’s explanations when pressed on questions of “knowing” about ethics and especially when asked whether she thought it was wrong to give scholarship money to her relatives for years and years who weren’t remotely entitled to them! LIE LIE LIE and LIE SOME MORE.  Sure sounds like Bill Clinton when he LIED about Monica Lewinsky. Similarly, Krystal Ball is denying that she had any idea of the scandalous appearance that would come out of cashing in stocks from companies that basically don’t exist or misrepresenting the facts around where her campaign donations are coming from, or the pathetically false ads that are spun up to tear down her opponent rather than positive ads about her own performance as a 28 year old Housewife, CPA, Programmer, Business Owner, New Mom, Political Strategist, Day Trader, Just an average  Mom… or promises to actually do SOMETHING better than her opponent. But let’s put the real blame where it belongs… the only way people like this get into office is because people like us elect them!  Okay, well maybe not “me”, but “us” as a general public voter.

Eric Cantor warns, "Beware of Obama tax increases"

Posted at SWAC Girl - S.W.A.C. stands for "Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta County" -- Republicans working to elect conservative, principled public officials in the picturesque Shenandoah Valley of Virginia ... with occasional musings about life happenings.

Congressman Eric Cantor, Republican Whip from Virginia, warned in Friday's USA Today of tax increases from the Democrats and President Barack Obama. In an op-ed for the newspaper, he wrote: Listening to the Democrats this summer, you're unlikely to hear about an impending tax increase. In an effort to sanitize their historically irresponsible decision to raise tax rates in the midst of a struggling economy, President Obama and the congressional majority say they are merely "allowing the Bush tax cuts" to expire. Skillful messaging perhaps, but cold comfort to the millions of Americans and small businesses who aren't concerned with what their effective tax rate was in 2001.

As Obama moves to ban the importation of 850,000 guns that collectors will snap up, a ban whose foundation seems to be that one of them might fall into the wrong hands, it's worth remembering this, from the NRA : This week, Fox News reported that it couldn't get a straight answer from the State Department about its decision in March to disapprove the importation of more than 800,000 M1 Garand rifles and M1 carbines from South Korea. According to Fox, the State Department claimed that the rifles might be used "for illicit purposes." But when asked to explain, State passed the buck to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, which passed it to the Department of Justice, which passed it back to State. The anti-gun Brady Campaign didn't hesitate to give Fox an answer, however. "Guns that can take high-capacity magazines are a threat to public safety," the group's Dennis Henigan told reporter Maxim Lott.

Barack Obama yesterday (from " Unemployment climbs to 9.6 percent "): As I've said from the start, there is no quick fix to the worst recession we've experienced since the Great Depression. The hard truth is that it took years to create our current economic problems, and it will take more time than any of us would like to repair the damage. Millions of our neighbors are living with that painfully every day. Barack Obama back when he was planning to keep unemployment from hitting 8% : First, we've got to act now to create good paying jobs. We've already lost three-quarters of a million jobs this year, and some experts say unemployment may rise to 8% by the end of next year

Auto Bailouts: Another Failed Obama Initiative

STEPHEN HAWKING SAYS NO NEED for GOD; IS HE RIGHT?

Posted at Virginia Right! - News from Virginia, the US and the World

Stephen Hawking is a scientist I admire greatly; both for his determination amid a tragic disease and his obvious intelligence.  But his latest comments on Creation trouble me.  I may be foolish to argue with the holder of the academic chair at Cambridge that Sir Issac Newton held but here is what Hawking asserted: He [Hawking] adds: “Because there is a law such as gravity, the universe can and will create itself from nothing. “Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the universe exists, why we exist. I note Hawking uses the word “creation”; I think he is right.  The universe was created.  He’s just wrong about how it happened and Who did it.  Hawking suggests that the laws of science brought the universe into being and thus there is no need for a deity.  But the former holder of the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics might differ with Hawking: Gravity explains the motions of the planets, but it cannot explain who set the planets in motion. God governs all things and knows all that is or can be done. I’ll go with this:  “In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth.”  Genesis 1:1 (KJV)  God can neither be proven or disproven by science.  I would merely state my testimony:  I need God in Christ every day and He gives me strength and wisdom for my daily walk.  Anyone who wants to know more can contact me at eesjresquire@netscape.net.  Here’s how to receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour from Billy Graham’s web page.

JOHN BOLTON for PRESIDENT?

Two stories discuss the possibility that former UN Ambassador John Bolton might run for President.  It is an intriguing long shot choice.  The Conflicted Libertarian would be conflicted.  Bolton is a “neo-con” hawk; that’s bad: He [Bolton] has assailed the administration’s “ policy chaos ” in Afghanistan. And he has unabashedly called for a military strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities while accusing the White House of leaving the U.S. defenseless by canceling missile defenses in Poland and the Czech Republic (the administration later announced a scaled-back defensive shield). But he is an extreme skeptic on UN and related issues; that’s good: As President George W.

Posted at SWAC Girl - S.W.A.C. stands for "Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta County" -- Republicans working to elect conservative, principled public officials in the picturesque Shenandoah Valley of Virginia ... with occasional musings about life happenings.

In the years when we Virginia natives lived at the Brushy Mountain foothills of northwest North Carolina, we constantly explored as much as we could in that part of the world. A short three-hour drive from our home was Dollywood in the Smokey Mountains of eastern Tennessee, a trip we were to make many times over the years. As someone who grew up in Richmond with Kings Dominion an hour drive north on I-95, Dollywood was a more down-home amusement park, small and tucked into the mountainside on the edge of Pigeon Forge. We would stay at a favored family-owned cottage in nearby Gatlinburg and drive the short distance to Dollywood where we had season tickets. When Dollywood opened 25 years ago, we were there to enjoy the festivities

Nun Killed By “Hope And Change”

Posted by Greg L

Posted at BLACK VELVET BRUCE LI - Blog-Fu for Prince William, Manassas and Manassas Park politics.

As if the sordid tale of Carlos Martinelly-Montano killing a nun wasn’t shocking enough, now comes a story from the Washington Post about how instead of deporting this habitual drunken driving illegal alien, the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement instead provided him with an Employment Authorization Card and set him free.  As an illegal alien awaiting a deportation hearing, Martinelly-Montano had no legal right to this kind of “soft amnesty”, but despite what the the law says the Obama administration facilitated this illegal alien’s continued unlawful presence, making it far easier for him to continue to violate the law, and resulting in the death of innocent Americans. This isn’t what I expected from “hope and change” at all.  I’d have never thought this sort of insanity possible. (more…)

SAVE the COINS: SUPPORT REP. CASTLE for US SENATE!

I have written about Rep. Mike Castle before at Conflicted Libertarian.  I recognize that Castle is a moderate Republican; some of his votes on things like cap-and-trade and closing alleged gunshow loopholes bother me.  But I am enthusiastic about Rep. Castle for US Senate because of an otherwise obscure issue:  Coins Remember before the State Quarter series in 1999?  American coins were dull and boring.  The quarter had not been changed since 1932; the dime since 1946.  Same ol’, same ol designs year after year.  But in 1999, things changed dramatically with the new quarter with Caesar Rodney riding a horse to vote for independence.  The State Quarter program was the brainchild of the Congressman from Delaware:  Michael N. Castle. The state quarters caused enthusiasm for coin collecting:  Kids bought albums and collected every coin in the series
