Adult Services Section of Craigslist Shuts Down

Censored Craig’s list has stopped offering links to the adult services in the United States.  according to the Washington Post : One of the world’s biggest providers of Internet classified advertising abruptly shut down the “adult services” section of its U.S. Web sites this weekend, apparently in response to criticism from prosecutors that it had become a tool for prostitution. But it was unclear whether Craigslist – an icon of the new media transformation of American society – had closed the site to placate those critics, or to hit back at them, casting itself as the victim of censorship. On its famously bare-bones Web sites, the blue-lettered link for adult services was gone.

Good news for the Taliban

It seems that the manufactured controversy over the Islamic Center in Lower Manhattan is doing wonders for at least one interested party -- the Taliban! This according to a no less knowledgeable source than...the Taliban itself. Newsweek quotes "Taliban operative Zabihullah" as saying: By preventing this mosque from being built, America is doing us a big favor...It's providing us with more recruits, donations and popular support. A true propaganda bonanza that "now heads the list of talking points in Taliban meetings with fighters, villagers, and potential recruits." Shocking new profile of Sarah Palin in Vanity Fair

Posted by

Posted at The Richmonder -

There's an amazing new profile of Sarah Palin by Michael Joseph Gross in Vanity Fair : Even as Sarah Palin’s public voice grows louder, she has become increasingly secretive, walling herself off from old friends and associates, and attempting to enforce silence from those around her. Following the former Alaska governor’s road show, the author delves into the surreal new world Palin now inhabits—a place of fear, anger, and illusion, which has swallowed up the engaging, small-town hockey mom and her family—and the sadness she has left in her wake. You can read the entire profile at Vanity Fair. Even more amazing is what the profile's author had to say when he was interviewed: "The worst stuff isn't even in there," Michael Joseph Gross said on "Morning Joe" Thursday.

McDonnell’s plan to raise taxes speaks volumes

Posted by

Posted at The Richmonder -

It's worth taking a moment to go back and recall where all of this supposedly started: transportation. The Republican Party of Virginia steadfastly refused to raise taxes on motor fuels--gasoline and diesel--in order to pay for much needed and neglected repairs to Virginia's road system. A small tax of a few pennies per gallon would be the simplest and best way of addressing the commonwealth's transportation problems. The use of motor fuels is directly related to the use of the road system. If we raised the tax on gasoline, the more people drive on the roads, the more fuel they buy, the more money would be available to fix the roads.

U.S. Rep. Glenn Nye, D-Norfolk, went after Republican Scott Rigell over negative advertising during the most recent debate between the two congressional hopefuls and Independent Kenny Golden. So far Nye's stayed positive on the campaign trail, probably because he knows as an incumbent in behooves him to talk about his record because Rigell doesn't have any kind of political background. Rigell's business acumen appears to be when the Republican is hanging his hat on - and the lack of political experience could be a positive thing considering the current political mood

Bob McDonnell’s Great "Privatization" Plan? Raise Taxes on Bars and Restaurants!

Posted by Blue Virginia

Posted at Blue Virginia - Front Page - Blue Virginia

I'm sure that this will go over really well with Bob McDonnell's base. Restaurants and bars that buy liquor from state stores now would have to pay for the privilege of buying directly from private wholesalers under a privatization plan being prepared for unveiling by Gov. Bob McDonnell next week. McDonnell is counting on restaurants and bars for as much as $38 million a year as part of a complex package of taxes and fees designed to make up the revenue now generated by Virginia's state liquor monopoly. The money would come from a new 4 percent tax that would be imposed on drinks sold in restaurants or bars , according to sources familiar with the plan

(see above) The annual inflow of unauthorized immigrants to the United States was nearly two-thirds smaller in the March 2007 to March 2009 period than it had been from March 2000 to March 2005, according to new estimates by the Pew Hispanic Center, a project of the Pew Research Center. This sharp decline has contributed to an overall reduction of 8% in the number of unauthorized immigrants currently living in the U.S. — to 11.1 million in March 2009 from a peak of 12 million in March 2007, according to the estimates.
